Sather & Holm, PLLC, is a dynamic law firm located in downtown Billings, Montana. Ben Sather and Eric Holm attended law school together at the University of Montana and, later in their practice, realized their shared vision of an entrepreneurial law firm, in which attorneys could bring their expertise and passion for the law into an environment focused on high quality work, client satisfaction, and community involvement. The result of this vision is Sather & Holm.

Tanis Holm joined the law firm in 2017 and brings an extensive range of practices and experiences. The firm is united not only by our enthusiasm for the pursuit of justice but also by a relentless dedication to our clients and commitment to providing comprehensive and goal-oriented advice. Ben Sather

Ben Sather was born and raised in Havre, Montana.  After graduating from Havre High, Ben attended the University of Montana, graduating with a degree in business administration.  Ben stayed in Missoula, attending law school at the University of Montana.

While in law school, Ben served as a legal clerk for the United States Senate Finance Committee.  He also worked as an intern for the Missoula County Attorney as a prosecuting attorney for two years.  While there, Ben prosecuted a wide variety of criminal charges in Missoula County, trying many cases to juries and judges.  During Ben’s third year of law school, Ben was selected as a clinical intern for United States Federal Magistrate Leif Erickson.

Following law school, Ben served as a law clerk for the Montana Supreme Court, working with Justices James Nelson, Jim Rice, and W. William Leaphart.  Ben worked closely with the justices of the Court and other law clerks, developing superior legal research and writing skills while learning the intricacies of appellate practice in Montana.

After his clerkship ended in 2007, Ben and his young family moved to Billings and have been in Billings ever since, focusing on representing individuals in automobile accident claims, wrongful death claims, and product liability claims.  Ben also has represented families and businesses in commercial litigation, including estate and contract disputes.

Ben is a member of the Board of Trustees for the State Bar of Montana. He was elected to serve in this position by the attorneys of Yellowstone County and the surrounding areas. Ben is a past President of the Yellowstone Area Bar Association and Director of the Board of Directors for the Yellowstone Area Bar Association. Ben is also a member of the Montana Grizzlies Fan Association Board through the University of Montana. 

Ben formed Sather & Holm, PLLC, with Eric Holm in February 2013.  Ben continues to focus on representing individuals in personal injury and insurance claims, along with general commercial litigation. Ben's wife Heather Webster Sather is an attorney in Billings, serving as a Deputy County Attorney in Yellowstone County. Ben and Heather have two daughters--Evey and Nora. Together, they enjoy music, golf and traveling together throughout Montana and beyond.

Eric Holm

Eric Holm was born in Lovell, Wyoming, just south of Billings, Montana.  Eric earned an Honors Degree from Georgetown College, studying environmental science and political science.  During college, Eric was the managing editor of the student newspaper.

Eric earned his law degree from the University of Montana School of Law in Missoula, Montana.  During law school, Eric was an active member of the American Association for Justice and interned at a private law practice in Havre, Montana, focusing on personal injury, wrongful death, contract, and products liability cases.

In Billings, Eric was employed for several years by a civil litigation defense firm practicing personal injury law, employment law, insurance defense, and civil litigation.  He then joined another civil litigation firm in Billings, representing injury and accident victims, employees and employers in discrimination and wrongful discharge cases, and individuals and businesses in commercial and contract litigation.  Eric started the law office of Sather & Holm, PLLC, with Ben Sather in 2013.

Eric Holm practices in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, employment and discrimination law, commercial litigation, and general civil litigation in the Billings area and throughout the state of Montana.  Eric has been a featured speaker at seminars such as Labor and Employment Law: Best Practices for Public and Private Employers, and Montana Trial Lawyers Association, Making Your Case: Practice Tips from the Bench and Bar.

Eric is licensed to practice law in all state and federal courts in Montana, plus the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He is a member of the Montana Trial Lawyers Association, State Bar of Montana, Yellowstone Area Bar Association, and American Bar Association.

In his spare time, Eric enjoys golfing, hiking and camping in Montana’s great outdoors with his wonderful wife and their two dogs.

Tanis Holm

Tanis Holm offers 10 years of experience as a commercial litigation, employment law, and general civil practice lawyer who has represented numerous companies and individuals in the area of employment transactions and disputes, contract disputes, ranch litigation and civil rights law.

As a well rounded civil litigator, Tanis has experience in many areas of the law and her knowledge and commitment to professionalism and advocacy is an asset to her clients. Tanis has been a featured speaker at seminars and conferences with regard to labor and employment law, civil rights law, landlord/tenant issues, and commercial contracts.  

Tanis is licensed to practice law in all state and federal courts in Montana, plus the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  She is a member of the State Bar of Montana, Yellowstone Area Bar Association, and American Bar Association. Tanis also serves on the professionalism committee of the State Bar and has served on board for numerous organizations. 

Before joining Sather & Holm, Tanis first worked at Crowley Fleck in its litigation department practicing in the insurance defense arena. Thereafter, Tanis joined Crist, Krogh, & Nord law firm where she practiced in the areas of employment law, discrimination, commercial litigation, and landlord/tenant.

Tanis holds a J.D. from the University of Montana (2007) and a B.A. in Political Science and French from Butler University (2004, with honors). In her free time, Tanis enjoys taking in the wonderful activities that Montana living has to offer such as biking, hiking, music, travel, and camping with her husband Eric and their two dogs.
